After the first game of the season, my friend and I went to McSorleys for a beer and to discuss how she enjoyed her first ever hockey game. We sat down, drank a few beers and were there when the players started to arrive. Straight away kids, older fans and pretty much anyone was rushing over asking for signatures from the players. They were happy to oblige, posing for photos signing and talking to the fans. I even saw someone help translate into english for someone.
Then at the same time, there were a few players from Servette FC walking around in their polo shirts. Some kids went over and asked for their autographs. They turned them away and laughed at them. I mean, I'm sorry but am I wrong in assuming that they are the club with all the debt problems, the one begin people to come watch them... the one who can't put a single win under their belt?! I mean, I bought a season ticket to go see them play... and every time I look at it now, I feel sick. These guys deserve NOTHING from us!
Anyway, to summarise: This is why hockey is the best sport on the planet. We are a family. We look out for each other, and no matter where you come from, what language you speak -If your heart is GSHC, that is all that matters.
